Zane Ruth has over twenty-five years of playing, teaching and arranging experience. Mr. Ruth is the director and founder of First Capital Drumline. From 1995 to 2009, Zane served as percussion instructor for the Dallastown Area High School. Under his direction the Dallastown Indoor Drumline won five KIDA and CIA championships. Currently, he serves as percussion instructor for the Dallastown Middle School, Northeastern High School and the Christian School of York. At the collegiate level, Mr. Ruth has worked with Millersville University and the the Virgina Tech Regimental Marching Band. As a private percussion instructor, Zane maintains an active percussion studio. Students of Mr. Ruth have gone on to become marching members with: Penn State's Blue Band, West Virginia University Mountaineer Band, The USC Trojan Marching Band, Shippensburg University and The Jersey Surf and Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Ruth is also the founder and director of the First Capital Trash Can Band and the First Capital Fife and Drum Corps. In 1998, Mr. Ruth was chosen to instruct the BIG 33 All Star Marching Band Percussion Section, and in 2000 became the Pennsylvania All State Band’s percussion director. As a performer, Zane was a member of the 1995 Westshoreman, DCA World Championship Drumline. Zane has also performed with the Hanover Lancer Drum and Bugle Corps under the direction of Drum Corps Hall of Fame member Bob Zarfoss. Mr. Ruth is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and is a proud endorser of Pro-Mark Sticks and Mallets and is a member of its education team.
Nicole is the primary director and arranger of First Capital Youth Wind Ensemble, The fife instructor / arranger for First Capital Fife and Drum Corps, and "The Rock Band" instructor / arranger for First Capital Drumline. Since moving to York, Pennsylvania, from Milwaukee, WI, where she attended The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee; Nicole operates a successful private music studio, tutoring instrumental students of all ages.Nicole is proud to privately tutor multiple students who have excelled in not only their private lessons and school ensembles, but also The York Youth Symphony, The York Junior Symphony, York Honors Bands & PMEA District, Regional and State Bands.
Nicole is also the Technical Director and Assistant Music Director at Church of the Open Door and a pianist for the Country Club of York. Nicole encourages students to excel technically and expressively in their musicianship through positive reinforcement in a creative, open and interactive learning environment.
2018 will mark Rachel's fifth year as a member of the FC team. Rachel spent three seasons as a member of FC and has been our front ensemble instructor since 2016. Rachel is currently studying music at Messiah College in Pennsylvania and is a member of the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. Rachel is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and also works with high school marching bands throughout Central PA
Dani will be returning in 2018 as a front ensemble instructor. Dani is also an instructor with the FC Summer Trash Can Band and Northeastern HS Drumline in Manchester PA. Dani is currently studying elementary education at Millersville University.
2018 will mark Connor's third season as a member of the FC staff. Connor is a Graduate of Lebanon Valley College and is Currently the percussion instructor for the Eastern York Marching Band. Connor has also worked with Northeastern High School and Central Dauphin East High School percussion programs.
